I was amazed anyone would leave their children with us, is what I thought working my first San Francisco Pagan Pride Day in Golden Gate Park. I was working the child-care booth with a man who looked like he just jumped out of ‘Sons of Anarchy’ but was a very sweet queen-ie gay man. We had been joking around and talking catty when the couple dropped off their children.
What was really strange about this was that they weren’t even attending Pagan Pride Day; they were going to a music concert in the field across from us.
As soon as I said I was helping with Pagan Pride Day I got family and friends questioning what lead me to Paganism. It was a Craig List ad. I saw one looking for people to help with Pagan Pride Day, which was going to be large scale all day event with entertainment and vendors in Golden Gate Park done by a group of people, who had never done a n event of this scale before. I was coming out of a bad break up and all consuming relationship, so it seemed like the project I need.
The parents need day care badly enough that left their children with strangers at the Pagan festival; and we were pretty strange. I kept thinking a few generations back these people could have had family member that burned witches and here they were leaving the kids with potential witches to be able to enjoy an out door concert. We returned their children safe and happy at the end of the day, they may of learned a few curse … words, but they also has soda can rattles, and pagan blessings…
